Fraternity and Sorority Life at UCSB
While making your decision to register for recruitment, you may be wondering, "What if a Panhellenic Sorority isn't the right choice for me?" While traditional Panhellenic sororities can offer many benefits and be a home for many, it may not be the right choice for some. Fortunately, UCSB offers many other Greek Life paths as well! Here at UCSB, our Greek community is very large and diverse. Find out other options for going Greek below!
United Sorority and Fraternity Council
The United Fraternity and Sorority Council (USFC) is the governing body for the cultural-based sororities and cultural-based fraternities. USFC chapter pride themselves on diversity, unity, and a commitment to academic achievement, political awareness and service.

Culturally relevant fraternities and sororities – Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latina/o/x, and Multicultural interest – provide members a co-curricular experience that is centered in heritage, personal identity development, and cultural appreciation. Each culturally relevant fraternity and sorority has a specific cultural basis, which is the defining quality of the United Sorority & Fraternity Council. However, none of the culturally relevant organizations are culturally exclusive. All of the greek-letter fraternities and sororities that are part of the USFC have diverse membership.
These fraternities and sororities contribute to students’ sense of community by empowering them to participate in activities and program designed for self-discovery, leadership development, mentorship, and scholastic achievement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I join multiple Greek organizations at the same time?
You may only be a part of one social organization, which means that if you join and initiate into a Panhellenic sorority, you cannot simultaneously join and initiate into a USFC sorority or NPHC organization. However, you are able to be part of both a Panhellenic OR USFC sorority and a PFC organization at the same time!
How do I join a USFC/PFC/NPHC organization?
Each USFC and PFC organization has its own recruitment process. For more information, reach out to chapters directly, or check their social medias for more information!
How different is USFC/PFC/NPHC from Panhellenic?
All of UCSB's Greek Life offers the same sense of support, sibling-hood, and friendship, and all strive to encourage their members to be better community members. However, USFC and NPHC typically offer a more cultural, identity based experience, and PFC offers specific professional support.
